Newport Harbor Varsity Field Hockey has taken their season by the reigns and has lead us to many victories thus far, with hopefully more to come. While victorious in almost all of their game this season, the program continues to work hard to achieve their winning status in the field hockey world. Although the season is sadly coming to a halt at the end of October, and the time comes to say goodbye to all of our beloved seniors who have just finished playing their last season of high school field hockey, we continue to bond through performance and play. Having fun is the name of the game in field hockey, but the continuous victories by our varsity team do not hurt one bit, such as the solid win added to the Newport Harbor Varsity Field Hockey team record against Fountain Valley on October 12th, with their 5-0 score.

Fountain Valley wins the coin toss and gets to start with the ball, but that does not discourage any of our varsity girls, hungry for victory. Immediately Harbor takes it back and Chloe Bagiu, #4, rushes down to the opposing team’s goal, her teammates on the sideline cheer loudly for their team. A couple of exchanges up and down the field until Delaney Knipp, #13, passes it up, through Fountain Valley’s legs and down the sideline to Maddie Baldikowski, #11, who crosses it in towards Kate Davidson, #1, to finish off the play with an astounding one-touch goal. This was only beginning of junior, Kate Davidson’s, 3 goals in only the first half.

In the second half, the score is 4-0, Newport Harbor in the lead, goals previously scored by Kate Davidson and Maddie Baldikowski n the first half. Throughout the game, Fountain Valley could not break through our defensive wall, which consisted of Grace O’Neill, #19, Elise Skytte, #6, Natalie Williams, #14, Delaney Knipp, many more strong defensive players, and our amazing goalies, senior, Sarah Sheldon, #23, and junior, Payton Steiner, #8. The clock began ticking down from the halftime mark, and Harbor was not finished yet. The only freshman on varsity, Lindsay Blanchfield, #15, brings it to our scoring goal, where the ball tends to stay for the majority of the remaining time in the half. The ball then goes to junior, Maddie Baldikowski where she takes a shot once again, scoring the last goal of the game. Newport Harbor Varsity Field Hockey left the Fountain Valley High School field in triumph and in smiles.
